Hellas Verona will be looking to get going in the Serie A after a stuttering start to the campaign; a 0-0 listless draw against Atlanta characterized by some wasteful finishing. The new boys, Palermo also were involved in a draw against a much better side in Sampordia. Verona will be looking to win this fixture at home, where they were solid last season.
Hellas Verona form: D-D-L-W-D
Last year Verona were promoted to the Serie A and they took everyone by surprise. Finishing 10th in Serie A, the Mastini were undoubtedly a surprise package of the season. Spearheaded by the veteran Italy striker, Luca Toni they finished just 11 points behind the last Champions League qualifying team, an impressive achievement for a newly promoted side.
This season it will be much difficult as the second season syndrome kicks in.
Palermo form: L-W-D-L-D
The newly promoted side have been decent in their first game and will be looking to frustrate Verona when they play away. Against Atlanta, they had an extra man advantage when Atlanta’s centre-back Vasco Regini given the marching orders.
Palermo manager, Giuseppe Iachini was not impressed with his team especially the forwards who failed to convert he chances. Essentially, they were two lost points for the new boys.
Hellas Verona: Luca Toni
The veteran striker has been around for a while now. He has lost a good amount of pace and his movement also restricted, but his heading ability is still intact. Last season his 20 goals in 33 matches for Verona were a testament of his striking abilities.
He is yet to open his account and a home game against a new side in Palermo will be the best stage.
Palermo: Stefano Sorrentino
The ex-Chievo Verona keeper has been the first choice for Palermo since he joined them in January transfer window of 2013. He was a regular in the Serie B campaign for 2013 season for Palermo.
Verona start favourite in this one with bet365 offering 6/5 which is an excellent price. It should be a low scoring affair and less than 2.5 goals looks a decent price at 1.87 with BetVictor.
