Rangers begin their competitive season with this league cup encounter against fellow Scottish Championship team Hibernian on Tues evening.
Hibs were relegated from the Premier League last season while Rangers eased to promotion for league one so this could be an interesting match-up.
Rangers’ Pre-Season Form
Rangers were undefeated throughout the whole of their league one campaign, claiming the title and winning an impressive 16 out of 18 matches at home.
They’ve had a decent pre-season losing only 2 of their 7 matches, the latest a 2-0 defeat to Derby County on Saturday.
Hibernian’s Pre-Season Form
Hibs are no longer in the top flight after a dismal second half of the season where they only won one of their final 15 games.
Manager Alan Stubbs has a lot of rebuilding to do and although they started their pre-season in great style the two 4-0 wins they had were against very weak opposition.
They’ve since played 4 more matches and failed to score in 3 of them and this will be a concern for Stubbs.
Key Players/Team News
Rangers: Kris Boyd and Kenny Miller
These two former Scotland strikers are back at Rangers now and will guarantee the Gers plenty of goals. If either feature Hibs will struggle to keep them at bay.
McCoist has injury doubts in Lee Wallace, Lee, McCulloch and may choose not to risk them in this one. Tunisian Central defender Bilel Moshni will miss this match and the league opener against Hearts after his red card at Derby County.
Hibernian: Paul Hanlon
Last season’s Player’s player of the year, central defender Paul Hanlon will need to be on top form to keep Rangers at bay. He’s a former Scotland under-21 captain and although he ended the season with a knee-injury he now looks to have gotten himself back into the reckoning.
Rangers are a banker for me. Yes, this is the league cup and it’s early in the season but Rangers are a class above here. The odds on the Rangers win are very fair indeed and will shorten as we approach kick off so get on quick. Best price is 1.53 with Coral.
If you don’t like short prices and you’re looking for a little more value then Rangers to win to nil looks a nice price at odds of over 2/1. Remember Hibs have failed to score in 3 of their last 4 matches.
Rangers to win at 1.53 with Coral
