Sporting Kansas City’s place in the MLS play-offs already looks solidified, so they shouldn’t have to worry about their upcoming performances. But they will be up against it when they visit an in-form New York side on Sunday. The Red Bulls are two points off of a play-off place, and if they don’t qualify it would end up being a dismal season for them, based on the quality of their team.
New York Red Bulls: W-L-W-W-L
The Red Bulls have gotten back to winning ways this month, although two of their three wins did come against FAS and Montreal Impact, who aren’t the best sides in the world. The Red Bulls like KC recently lost to DC United, and they can’t have any more slip ups, they must gain ground on Philadelphia and Columbus.
Sporting Kansas City: W-D-L-L-L
KC’s recent form does not reflect their excellent league position. They managed to lose three MLS game in a row, including a loss to their closest challengers for first in the east, DC United. They are nine points ahead of sixth place Philadelphia, who are sitting in the last playoff spot, but if their form continues like this, even a gap that large could be closed.
New York Red Bulls: Bradley Wright-Phillips
Bradley Wright-Phillips, one of the breakout players of this MLS season, will be looking to run rampant against a shaky Kansas City defense this weekend. The Englishman has scored 20 goals in 31 games for NYRB this season, and will be looking to add to his tally of two goals in his last three games.
Sporting Kansas City: Matt Besler
Kansas City has let in three goals in their last three games, which led out of form Aurelien Collin to be benched in their most recent match. Matt Besler, is the undoubted starter, and no matter who his partner his, he must take what he learned from the national team and start applying it to the MLS.
Based on the form book and since Kansas still haven’t figured things out at the back, New York can be backed to win but Kansas could score as well. Bet365 are offering 2.3 for a New York victory but I like the look of the 1.66 on offer for both teams to score.
Best Bet:Both teams to score at 1.66 (Bet365)
