Manchester United v Swansea | Betting Preview

Date: August 16, 2014
Venue: Old Trafford, Manchester, England
Kick-off time: 12:45 BST

The Louis Van Gaal era in the red half of Manchester will kick-off in earnest as the 20 time Premier League champions open the Barclays Premier League season 2014/15 against Gary Monk’s Swansea at the theater of dreams in Manchester.

The home team will be looking to make a flying start to the league campaign under their new coach. Incidentally, United had opened their ill-fated season under David Moyes with a trip to Wales last time around. This season though, it is the Swans who have to do the travelling.

Manchester United’s form

Manchester United have won all six matches in their pre-season so far and will be hoping to be up for the real thing when the Premier League kicks-off at Old Trafford on Sunday. United started their pre-season tour of the United States with a 7-0 thrashing of LA Galaxy for the Chevrolet Cup before claiming the International Champions Cup after having defeated the likes of AS Roma, Inter Milan, Real Madrid, and bitter rivals Liverpool in the final.

United will be playing in a totally new formation which has never been employed at Old Trafford for as long as I can remember. So far, the players have really stepped up and made a positive impression in pre-season. However, the real business begins on Saturday and it will be interesting to see what transpires. Luke Shaw is definitely out with an injury while Jonny Evans and Antonio Valencia are also nursing injuries.

Swansea’s form

A brutally dilapidated Swansea City side will go into this game on the backs of a 3-0 defeat to La Liga side Villarreal. The Swans had defeated the likes of Reading (3-1), Exeter City (2-0), and Plymouth (4-0) before they tasted defeat at the Liberty Stadium against Villarreal.

The present team is severely depleted after the departures of some big names such as Michu, Michel Vorm, Ben Davies, Jonathan De Guzman and company. They are having a tough time rebuilding and it is thought that if they lose Wilfried Bony to Liverpool in the coming days, Monk’s side are going to feature in the relegation scrap come May 24 next year.

Key Players

Manchester United: Wayne Rooney

The new Manchester United skipper will be tasked with the duty of scoring and creating goals for his side. Rooney is expected to flourish under Van Gaal as the Dutchman has freed him from his midfield duties and given him a license to cause havoc in the final third of the pitch.

Swansea: Wilfried Bony

Bony is probably the only outstanding player that Swansea can boast of currently. Bony scored a hatful of goals last season and his manager will be hoping that he stays at the Liberty Stadium post August 31 and repeats his performances from last season.

Betting advice

This is a severely weakened Swansea side and you can expect them to struggle against a Manchester United side which has been extremely well prepared by their new coach. I predict an easy win for United on Saturday.

Take BetVictor’s 2.75 for over 2.5 goals to be scored in the match too and if you open an account with TitanBet you can get enhanced odds of 3.0 on a Manchester United win.
