Feyenoord v Besiktas

Date: July 30, 2014
Venue: Feijenoord Stadium – Feyenoord, Holland
Kick-off Time: 19:00 BST

Feyenoord meet Besiktas in the first leg of their Champions League second round qualifying tie this Wednesday in Holland. Feyenoord finished second in the Dutch Eredivisie last season.

Besiktas finished third in Turkey, and qualified for the Champions League as a result of the matchfixing scandal surrounding Fenerbahce. They have fared better so far in the transfer window, managing to keep hold of all their players as well as sign Chelsea’s Senegalese striker Demba ba.

Feyenoord’s Pre-season form

Feyenoord played their first three friendlies against three teams from the lower divisions of Holland, and the result was three wins. Their first test came against Real Sociedad, a match that ended in a 1-1 draw. Striker Mitchell e te Vrede scored a goal in that game, and will likely start against Besiktas.

Besiktas’s Pre-season form

Besiktas has had similar form to Feyenoord so far this season. Their only loss was against Wigan, and they recently drew Mainz 1-1.

Key Players & Team News

Feyenoord: Jordy Clasie

The 23-year-old creative midfielder featured twice in the World Cup for Holland, against Argentina and Brazil. Dubbed the Dutch Xavi, look for him to feed Mitchell te Vrede and try to dominate the midfield.

The Dutch outfit have become victims of Holland’s success at the World Cup, as they have lost center back Bruno Martins Indi as well as wingback Darly Janmaat to both Porto and Southampton, respectively.

Also, their Italian forward Graziano Pelle, who scored 23 times in the Eredivisie last season, has moved to Southampton. And finally, center back Stefan De Vrij has almost completed a move to Lazio.

Besiktas: Demba Ba

Last year, Mourinho said Chelsea had no strikers, as the likes of Fernando Torres, Demba Ba, and Samuel Eto’o weren’t cutting it. The Senegalese forward got a move to Besiktas and looks to be very happy about the move. Let’s see if he can translate that excitement to the pitch.

Betting Advice

With Feyenoord already losing several of their key players, I can’t see a dominating performance, but I still think they’ll get the win. Take the best price of 3.3 with BetVictor to make sure you increase your long term profits. Also look at Stan James’ offer of 1.8 for less than 2.5 goals to be scored in the match.
