Cyprus v Israel | Betting Preview

Date: Friday, October 10, 2014
Venue: Neo GSP stadium, Nicosia, Cyprus
Kick off time: 19:45 hrs BST

Cyprus will welcome Israel to their shores as the two sides lock horns in their Euro 2016 qualifier. Both sides have extremely similar records coming into this match and the winner of this match will enjoy an obvious advantage over their opponents at this early stage of qualification to Europe’s premier footballing event.

Cyprus’ form: W-L-L-D-D

Cyprus have featured in a total of four matches on the calendar year, losing a couple, winning one, and drawing one. Their only win in this run of four matches came on September 9 when they beat Bosnia Herzegovina 1-2 in an away game.

Prior to this game, they had lost back to back matches against Japan in May and Croatia in September. The side had also drawn against Northern Ireland (March) and Albania (October 2013) in the two matches before they faced Japan in May earlier this year.

Israel’s form: W-L-L-D-D

Israel has an identical record as their opponents for the next game going into this fixture. They come into this game on the backs of a 4-2 win against Honduras in an away game. Prior to this game, the Israelis had lost against Mexico in May and against Slovakia in March.

However, to their credit, Israel had been able to hold both Northern Ireland as well as Portugal to 1-1 draws in a couple of fixtures which were played in October last year.

Key Players

Cyprus: Dimitris Christofi

Midfielder Christofi scored both goals in their last win and the 26 year old will be looking to come up with the goods once again as his side go up against Israel.

Israel: Eran Zahavi

The 27 year old has been a part of all the good things that the national team have done on the pitch off late. He scored the opener for Israel in the last game which Israel won as well and he will be the man who will be looking to keep it tidy in the middle of the park as Israel visit Cyprus.

Betting Advice

A draw looks like the most obvious result. Incidentally, both, an Israel win and a draw are at 2.15 with BetVictor while Cyprus are slightly behind at 3.75 (bet365) to win it. Not too many goals in the game though, with bet365 offering 1.61 for less than 2.5 to be scored.
