Both China and Kuwait are playing a series of friendlies in the next few months to prepare for the AFC Asian Cup, which kicks off in Australia in January.
Their most recent competitive match (and most recent loss) was against Iran in Asian Cup qualifying. They still managed to qualify for that by being runners up in their group, and will be bolstered by the fact that in May they won a friendly against Afghanistan and tied Thailand and Kyrgyzstan. Not the best results against three teams that didn’t even qualify for the Asian Cup, but at least they didn’t lose.
Based on their population, China should really be better. They were three points off of making it into the fourth round of World Cup qualifying, but if they did they wouldn’t have deserved it. They barely qualified for the Asian Cup as the best third placed team. If they had scored one less goal or let in one more goal, Lebanon would’ve been in instead. In June they did beat Macedonia in a friendly, but then tied Macedonia and lost to Mali.
China: Gao Lin
China only managed to score a measly five goals in Asian Cup qualification, the worst of any team that qualified. The goalscoring responsibility against Kuwait will likely fall to Gao Lin, who with 17 goals is China’s highest scoring player that was called up for the friendly against Kuwait.
Kuwait: Musaed Neda
Kuwait’s problem in qualifying for the Asian Cup wasn’t scoring goals but rather conceding them. They let in seven goals, the most of any team that qualified. Neda, who has been capped 70 times for Kuwait, is one of only two players called up to the Kuwait side who doesn’t play domestically. He will need to lead by example in order to stop Gao Lin of China.
Since this is just the start of a series of friendlies for both sides, both teams will be experimenting, and this could end up seeing a good number of goals scored in the game. Looking at more than +2.5 goals to be scored in the match, with BetVictor offering odds of 2.1 for it.
