Chelsea v Real Sociedad

Date: August 12, 2014
Venue: Stamford Bridge, London, England
Time: 19:45 BST

Chelsea’s last preparation match before their Premier League campaign kicks off against Burnley will be this Tuesday against Real Sociedad. The Blues will be heavy favorites going into this game, having already signed several key players, such as Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa, while on the other hand Real Sociedad has lost several key players, such as Griezmann and Claudio Bravo.

Pre-season Form

Chelsea: W-L-L-L-W

Chelsea’s preseason hasn’t been the best, and Mourinho admits that. Their most recent friendly came against a competitive Ferencvaros side, a game which they were able to win 2-1. Before that they lost to Besiktas and Fenerbahce in two 45 minute games, and also lost 3-0 to Werder Bremen.

Real Sociedad: D-W-W-L-W

Real Sociedad’s form so far has been similar to Chelsea’s- ok, but not the best. But despite their indifferent form, and despite being outplayed the 2nd game against Aberdeen, they are into the next round of the Europa League.

And because of that, they definitely will have an advantage over Chelsea as they have already played competitive matches this season.

Key players

Chelsea:

Cesc Fabregas looks set to be a starter in every game for Mourinho. His performances will be expected to be outstanding this season, and if he is outstanding Chelsea should be able to beat Real Sociedad. But, at the same time, he and the rest of Chelsea should be cautious as they don’t want any more injuries before the season starts. (Drogba was injured against Ferencvaros)

Real Sociedad:

Sergio Canales is a young attacking midfielder who was signed from Valencia this summer. Canales will be instrumental in being able to breakdown a stern Chelsea backline.

Betting Advice

Chelsea may not want to risk a lot since their season starts on Monday, but at the same time I think even if they use mainly backups they’ll have too much quality for Real Sociedad. Not only am I looking at a Chelsea win here – for which bet365 are offering 1.4.

But I am more interested in Boylesports’ 1.72 for more than 2.5 goals to be scored in the game and you can also get yourself a free £50 bet if you open a new account with them.
