Blackburn v Cardiff Betting Preview

Date: August 8, 2014
Venue: Ewood Park, Blackburn, England
Time: 19:45 BST

The English Championship kicks off tomorrow, with Blackburn meeting Cardiff. Both teams will be fighting this season to get back to the familiar territory of the Premier League. Blackburn were there two years ago, and Cardiff were just there last season.

Cardiff will only have two center backs going into the game with Blackburn, with Juan Cala suspended, Ben Turner injured, and with Gary Medel being very close to a move to Inter Milan.

Winger Craig Noone is also out with a groin injury, but thankfully for Cardiff they have a replacement in the form of newly signed Tom Adeyemi.

Blackburn’s luck has been opposite to that of Cardiff, as they have a fully fit squad, and a stomach bug that bothered a few players a few days ago has been overcome.

Blackburn’s Preseason Form

They had a lot of draws against lower division sides this preseason. Their biggest test came recently against Stoke, and they were able to manage a 1-1 draw. They haven’t lost a game since March.

Cardiff’s friendlies also featured a majority of lower division sides, and as like Blackburn in their most recent friendly they were able to manage a draw (3-3) against a top division team, Wolfsburg. They may have won more than Blackburn, but losing 3-0 to Russian top flight side Amkar Perm was not a good result.

Key Players

Blackburn: Chris Brown

The centre forward will be key in helping Blackburn get back Cardiff’s injury-riddled defence. He had a good goalscoring record with Doncaster Rovers, but must score even more if he hopes to help get Blackburn promoted.

Cardiff: Mark Hudson

Cardiff only have two centre backs available, so Hudson is expected to partner Matt Connolly, but Hudson is recovering from injury. He needs to do as best as possible in order to stem Blackburn’s attack, otherwise it could be a long night for Cardiff.

Betting Advice

With Blackburn having a fully fit squad and with Cardiff’s team suffering from injuries and suspensions, and with Blackburn playing at home, I expect Blackburn to win this one.
