Besiktas and Feyenoord meet in Turkey on Wednesday, with the Turkish Giants having a huge advantage going into the 2nd leg, as they won 2-1 away to Feyenoord.
The Dutch outfit will not only have to worry about overcoming away goals in the Champions League, but also have to worry about not losing any more key players, as Jordy Clasie is the latest Feyenoord player linked with a move away.
I had mentioned this even in the previous preview for the game between these two teams, Besiktas’ form has been pretty good this preseason. The team carried that form into their first competitive game of the season.
Feyenoord’s form has tailed off in the last two games, and they were outplayed by Besiktas in the first leg of their Champions league tie. Feyenoord’s coach mentioned that they seemed to lack confidence when they conceded first against Besiktas, and it will be interesting to see if the players will come out motivated or overwhelmed in the 2nd leg.
Besiktas: Mustafa Pektemek
The young center forward was played the whole game last Wednesday, scored the first goal, and was the best player. Pektemek needs to score whatever opportunities present themselves as Besiktas will likely sit back.
Feyenoord: Jordy Clasie
Once again, the the impetus falls on Jordy Clasie for Feyenoord. It will be interesting to see if he can remain focused and sharp as there are strong rumors linking him away from Feyenoord.
I think that Feyenoord will win the game, but Besiktas will still progress. Feyenoord did themselves a huge favor by scoring a penalty kick in the last minute of the 1st leg, but I think Besiktas will lock down the defense. Feyenoord will win the game 1-0, and Besiktas will go through on away goals.
