  • What a difficult day to work out. Even though the ground may end up quite soft I'm sticking with my guns and going with the well handicapped Modus in the Betfair hurdle.
  • I just feel he's too well handicapped off a mark of 139 and I'm sure the ground won't be as bad as it was at Taunton last time. That day he also ran over too far and was giving weight away.
  • He had more in hand than the neck difference when beating Charmix at this track the time before and was travelling like a dream until about half a furlong to go. That race was run at a sedate pace and with the sheer volume of front runners here I can imagine the race will be set up for the selection.
  • That run at Taunton also came when Paul Nichols was in awful form and he's in much better form today with 7 winners from his last 22 runners (22%).
  • Blazer won a nothing race at Leopardstown but could be well handicapped and will like the ground. But as you can see in my Cheltenham tips, I think this Modus is a top class animal and even on soft ground, off a mark of 139 with a strong pace he has to be in with a great shout.
