  • If this match was been played at the beginning of March I would be backing Peterhead all the way.
  • At that point they were in the midst of a run that saw them go unbeaten for nineteen games, winning fifteen. The head to head stats would have revealed they had won five and drawn two of the last seven meetings with Ayr Utd. It was a clear cut case.
  • But things have unravelled for The Blue Toon. As a consequence of reaching the Petrofac Cup final they have lost their last seven matches. They have scored a solitary goal in those games, a meagre consolation in a 5-1 defeat to Brechin City.
  • Ayr Utd bucked the trend in those head to head stats with a 0-4 win in Balmoor barely two weeks ago. While The Honest Men’s form isn’t what it was either, it’s a damn sight better than Peterhead’s and that 0-4 win could be very telling.
  • Peterhead are missing a few crucial players too, most notably Rory McAllister who is suspended for the first leg of this Championship/League 1 playoff semi-final. Ayr Utd will have the guts of a full squad to choose from and have a lot of quality of their own to call on.
  • Alan Forrest, Alan Trouten, Craig Moore, Jordan Preston and Ryan Stevenson offer a wealth of attacking talent. Team selection could be key for Ian McCall but whoever he starts with he will plenty of options to call on if necessary.
  • Both teams have scored in just three of Ayr’s last ten games. Peterhead have seen both teams score in just two of their last ten and with McAllister missing it’s impossible to back that outcome at 1.62 (8/13) with bet365.
  • Marathon Bet are offering 2.58 (19/12) on at least one of the sides not finding the net and that looks to have a bit of value about it.
