  • Dundee proved on Wednesday that they can go to the big grounds against the big teams and put it right up to them.
  • Paul Hartley must in some ways be regretting resting his attacking triumvirate of Hemmings, Stewart and Harkins. Had they started at Celtic Park there is a very good chance Dundee may have collected all three points.
  • He rested them because he sees Saturday's game as the most winnable, in terms of being potentially able to win it and with more reward at the end of it. The Scottish Cup is a big target for Dundee and one they are more than capable of achieving. After Wednesday's result they will be even more fired up for this one.
  • There are no more difficult teams than Dundee for Rangers to play right now. They have lost just six of their last twenty-five games and have stopped shipping goals with their previous regularity. They have had one defeat in 2016, a 1-0 loss away at Aberdeen and they were unlucky to do so.
  • After losing James McPake to a season ending injury their defence looked in danger of falling apart but they have fixed it. In their last six games they have conceded just one goal and are unbeaten in that time. This has coincided with the arrival of Darren O Dea with five clean sheets in his eight games.
  • Rangers are on a good run too, though. Despite losing Martyn Waghorn to injury they have kept on winning and they will look to their most recent performance as a sign of a team playing well. The win against Raith sees the league all but won and they can genuinely think of an assault on the Scottish Cup.
  • But they will have to do without Waghorn, King and O Halloran for this game . Both of their January transfer signings have made a big impact in their first month at the club and they will be missed. It is unlikely to stop Rangers playing on the front foot all the same.
  • If Dundee play to their usual style we could have two sides going all out for the win and that could make for a real cup cracker.
  • This game is too close to call for me so the odds are heavily skewed in Rangers favour at a best.
  • Backing Dundee should be a given at such a skewed price and Draw No Bet insurance pays out at 4.5 (7/2) with Boylesports and Betvictor. Backing them to win or draw still pays out at a high of 2.6 (8/5) with bet365.
